Elizabeth Charlotte Simmonds, daughter of Stephen Simmonds and Elizabeth Hemsley, was born on 20 September 1839 in Clayton, Hurstpierpoint, Sussex.2,5
Elizabeth Charlotte was the third of seven children. Her siblings were James (b 1836), Ann (b 1838), Ruth (b 1842), Naomi (b 1884), Samuel (b 1846) and Stephen (b 1848).

The marriage was conducted by James H Jaques, Curate. Their witnesses were James Francis and Fanny [Sargett?].1,2,4
