     Samuel O'Neill, son of Charles O'Neill and Mary Hamill, was born on 9 April 1863 in Rasharkin, County Antrim, Ulster.1

Samuel was the youngest of five children. His siblings were Charles (b c1851), Anne (b c1856), John (b c1858) and James (b c1860).

Samuel O'Neill appeared in the 1881 census of Faskin, Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, at 148 Backrow, in his mother's household. He was described as a Coal Miner.4

Samuel appeared in the 1891 census of Airdrie, Lanarkshire, at 23 Louden Street. Samuel was described as a Coal Miner. Living with him were his brothers John and James, his mother Mary and his niece Mary Casey.5

Samuel O'Neill married Agnes Devan, daughter of James Devan and Annie Boyd, after Publication, according to the rites and ceremonies of the Roman Catholic Church on 26 August 1891 at St Joseph's Chapel, Girvan, Ayrshire. The marriage was conducted by John Augustine O'Neill. Their witnesses were James Devan and Margaret Gallacher.3,6,2

Samuel registered the birth of his son Samuel O'Neill in 1892 at 75 Johnston Street in Airdrie. He gave his occupation then as a Coal Miner.1,7 Samuel registered the death of his one hour old son, Samuel O'Neill, in 1892 in Airdrie, Lanarkshire.8

Samuel registered the birth of his son Charles O'Neill in 1893 at 4 Trade Street in Stranraer. He gave his occupation then as a Telegraph Workman.9

Samuel registered the birth of his son James O'Neill in 1895 at 24 Loudon Street in Airdrie. He gave his occupation then as a Coal Miner.10

Samuel registered the birth of his son John O'Neill in 1897 at 13 Forsyth Street in Airdrie. He gave his occupation then as a Coal Miner.11

Samuel registered the birth of his son Arthur O'Neill in 1899 at 3 South Nimmos Street in Airdrie. He gave his occupation then as a Coal Miner.6,12

Samuel registered the birth of his daughter Mary O'Neill in 1901 at 3 South Nimmos Street in Airdrie. He gave his occupation then as a Coal Miner.13

Samuel and Agnes appeared in the 1901 census of Airdrie, New Monkland, Lanarkshire, at 3 South Nimmos Street. Samuel was described as a Coal Miner. Their children Charles, James, John, Arthur and Mary were listed as living with them.14

Samuel registered the birth of his daughter Annie O'Neill in 1905 at 9 Manse Place in Airdrie. He gave his occupation then as a Coal Miner.15

Samuel registered the death of Thomas O'Neill, in 1909 in Airdrie, Lanarkshire.16

In 1923 Samuel and Agnes lived at 19 Moore Street, Cadzow, Hamilton, Lanarkshire.2

Samuel O'Neill died on 24 June 1923, aged 60, in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, at Kirklands Mental Hospital. The cause of death was given as a two day old cerebral haemorrhage (stroke).2
