Elizabeth and Stephen appeared in the 1841 census of Clayton, Sussex, at Wood Cottage. Their children James, Ann and Elizabeth Charlotte were listed as living with them, as was his mother, Jane (?), together with two lodgers.1
Elizabeth Hemsley died on 8 June 1850 in Clayton, Sussex. The cause of death was given as phthisis (tuberculosis) of 8 years duration.6
