Susan Ray, daughter of William Ray and Ann (?), was born circa 1830 in Aldingbourne, Sussex.3 She was baptised on 27 June 1831 in Aldingbourne, Sussex.2
No record of any siblings has been found.
Susan registered the birth of her daughter Mary Ann Martin in 1849 in Bosham.4
Susan registered the birth of her daughter Charlotte Martin in 1850 at Old Fishbourne in Westbourne.3,5,1
Susan appeared in the 1851 census of Bosham, Sussex, in the household of John Martin and Sarah Gass. She was described as their daughter-in-law and a Dealer in Toys.3
It seems that Susan Ray and Thomas Martin married between 1841 and 1851. However, no record of a marriage has been found.3
Susan appeared in the 1861 census of Brighton, Sussex, at 55 Chesterfield Street. Susan was described as 30 years old and born in Albourne [sic]. Her daughter Charlotte was listed as living with her, together with a husband, Licensed Hawker William Ripley, and four other Ripley children aged between one and nine.6
