     Thomas Jardine, son of John/Thomas Jardine and Mary Fleming, was born circa 1844 in Tynron, Dumfriesshire.3,5 When Thomas married in 1894, he gave his father's name as "John Jardine", a Farm Servant. However, the name given on Thomas's death registration, by his son James was "Thomas Jardine", an Estate Labourer. It is quite possible that neither name is correct.2,4

Thomas was the second of three known children. His siblings were John McKinzie (b 1842) and Jane Douglas (b 1848).

Thomas Jardine appeared in the 1851 census of Penpont, Dumfriesshire, in his mother's household.3

Thomas registered the birth of his son Thomas Jardine in 1871 at 53 Main Street in Glasgow. He gave his occupation then as a Slater (journeyman).6,7,5,8

Thomas and Mary Blair appeared in the 1871 census of Calton, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, at 53 Main Street. Thomas was described as an unmarried Slater. Their son Thomas was listed as living with them.7

Thomas registered the birth of his son Alexander Jardine in 1873 at 53 Main Street in Glasgow. He gave his occupation then as a Slater (journeyman).9,5,8

Thomas and Mary appeared in the 1881 census of Blantyre, Lanarkshire, at Stonefield. Their children Thomas, Alexander, Jane, Mary and James were listed as living with them. Thomas was described as unmarried and a Coal Miner.5

Thomas registered the death of his "friend", Mary Blair, in 1882 in Blantyre, Lanarkshire.10

Thomas appeared in the 1891 census of Hamilton, Lanarkshire, at 9 Greenfield Road. His children Thomas, Alexander and James were listed as living with him. Thomas was described as a 47 year old widower and a Coal Miner.8

Thomas Jardine married Isabella Small after Publication, according to the rites and ceremonies of the Free Church of Scotland on 24 August 1894 at 35 Whitehill Road, Hamilton, Lanarkshire. The marriage was conducted by Thomas M B Paterson. Their witnesses were John Latta and Mary Quail.2

In 1898, Thomas was a Coal Miner.1

Thomas registered the death of his wife, Isabella Small, in 1910 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire. His occupation was recorded then as a Coal Miner.11

Thomas Jardine died on 29 December 1912 in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, at 22 Glasgow Road. The cause of death was given as "cardiac failure accelerated by a drinking bout."4,12
