John Albert Davis, son of Charles Albert Davis and Jessie Helen Roffey, was born on 28 November 1896 in South Hornsey, Edmonton, Middlesex, at 22 Warwick Road.2 John Albert Davis also went by the name of Jack.
Jack was the second of three children. His siblings were Gwendoline (b 1893) and Harold (b 1902).
Jack appeared in the 1901 census of Carshalton, Surrey, at 12 Lavender Road, in his parents' household.3
Jack appeared in the 1911 census of Wallington, Croydon, Surrey, at 64 Thorp Road, in his parents' household. He was described as at School and as a Butcher's Boy.4
In 1920 Jack lived at 64 Thorpe Road, Wallington, Surrey. He was described as a Draughtsman.1
John Albert Davis married Hilda Stickland, daughter of Frank Stickland and Jane Harris, after Banns, according to the rites and ceremonies of the Church of England on 4 September 1920 at St Mary's Church, West Moors, Dorset. The marriage was conducted by the Vicar, C Carew Cox. Their witnesses were Elsie Stickland and a Sidney L Black.1
In 1923 Jack and Hilda lived at 7 Sandy Lane North, Beddington, Surrey. He was described as an Engineers' Draughtsman.
In 1944 Jack and Hilda lived at Bincleaves, Woodmansterne Lane, Wallington, Surrey. He was described as an Engineer.
Jack registered the death of his mother, Jessie Helen Roffey, in 1956 in Bournemouth, (County Borough of Bournemouth).5,6
John Albert Davis died on 14 January 1975, aged 78, in Woodgate, Aldingbourne, West Sussex, at 10 Woodgate Road. The cause of death was given as bronchopneumonia and cerebral arteriosclerosis.7
