Edward Brandis, son of Christopher Brandis and Jane Ingram, was born on 12 April 1819 in Wylye, Wilton, Wiltshire.4,2 He was baptised on 30 May 1819 at Codford Independent Chapel, Wylye, Wiltshire.2
Edward was the twelfth of fourteen children. His siblings were Diana Ann (b 1794), Martha (b 1796), Thomas Walker (b 1798), Mary Ann (b 1799), Aaron Abraham (b 1803), William (b 1805), George (b 1807), Ann (b 1809), James (b 1811), Jane (b 1813), Caroline (b 1815), Rebecca (b 1816) and Elizabeth (b 1822). Edward was also known as Edwin Brandis.5,6
Edward appeared in the 1841 census of St George the Martyr, Southwark, London, at 14 William Street. Edward was described as a Porter (living in the household of William and Catherine Morris). Lydia Woollard was lodging in the same household.6
Edward Brandis married Lydia Woollard, daughter of William Woollard, by Banns, according to the rites and ceremonies of the Established Church on 7 April 1844 at St George the Martyr, Southwark, Surrey. The marriage was conducted by J Horton (Rector). Their witnesses were Samuel Cooper and Rachel Cooper.4,3
Edward registered the death of his daughter, Lydia Brandis, in 1846 in Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch, Middlesex. His occupation was recorded then as a Warehouseman.7
Edward registered the birth of his daughter Annie Brandis in 1846 at 8 Whitmore Place West in Shoreditch. He gave his occupation then as a Warehouseman.8,9,10
Edward and Lydia appeared in the 1851 census of Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch, Middlesex, at 8 Whitmore Place West. Their children Annie, Jane and Caroline were listed as living with them. Edward was described as a Warehouseman.8

Edward Brandis died on 22 March 1869, aged 49, in Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch, Middlesex, at 113 St John's Road. The cause of death was given as phthisis (tuberculosis) and exhaustion.5
